Humberto Avelar is a Brazilian animated films director. He has made over 150 animated films released to movie theatres and television, including short films, series, campaigns, and publicity work as well. He initiated his career by creating arts, storyboards, and animation for TV Globo and commercials. He drew comics and cartoons, and he was a professor of animation and comics at Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro.

 

As Director of animated films at Multirio production studio, besides live-action shows, he also directed the film series “Juro que vi”, “Cantigas de roda”, and “Que medo”, which have been awarded in film festivals in Brazil and abroad. We could highlight the Japan Prize, Prix Jeneusse Iberoamericano, and the film festivals in Recife, Maranhão, Bahia, Anima Mundi, and the Grande Prêmio do Cinema Brasileiro.

 

Alongside Mixer and TV Globo, he directed the three seasons of the animated series “Sítio do Picapau Amarelo”, broadcast by Cartoon Network Latin America and Brazil, and by the channels Tooncast, Boomerang, and Globo.

 

He is the creator of the animated series “Vai dar samba”, whose pilot was broadcast by TV Cultura and TV Ratimbum, aside from being the director of the series “Mundo Ripilica, as aventuras de Lilica, a coala”, broadcast by Discovery Kids Channel, and the co-director of the series “Diário de Pilar” by Nat Geo Kids.

Humberto is the director and associate producer of the feature film “Abá and his band” by Fraiha Produções/Globofilmes.

His works have received the seal of “highly recommended for children and teenagers”, given by the Ministry of Justice of Brazil, and an honorable mention from UNICEF.
